dreams

Apr. 2nd, 2006 | 07:00 pm

i'm going to make an aside for a minute from the usual track talk to write about a dream i had yesterday that was not only plain bizarre but made me realize how the dream process occurs.

heavily inspired from the film gummo and the game metal gear solid:snake eater, i fell into a dream in which i was running through the deep south, amidst log cabins and such, when out of nowhere i have this disgusting feeling in my mouth, and realize i'm surrounded by bees. i eventually run into a log cabin which coincidentally happens to be inhabited by some of my good friends. i start spitting out bees or wasps like crazy, and eventually start needing to pull them out of the deep recesses of my mouth with a toothbrush in front of a mirror. it was gross, i must have spit out or scraped out maybe 20-30 bees into a disgusting sink.

basically, that's all i can remember. but it's funny, later i realized the southern log cabin settings were similar to gummo's shithole redneck town, and the bees was much like one of the bosses in MGS:SE, who is surrounded by a shield of bees and uses them as weapons. eventually when his shields are down enough, he starts spitting out bees that act as bullets.

weird stuff. first meet on tuesday...not eagerly awaiting that.

I hate not running with the team. I did a measly eight 200m hills today, and wasn't really tired but didn't feel accomplished at all. I really hope I can go back to school soon.
Ugh.

inter-team meet.

Mar. 25th, 2006 | 11:48 am

So today we divided our team into a blue team and a white team, with captains Ben Massam and Eric Couphos. I was on the blue team, and we lost by a narrow margin seeing as how the white team had all the jumps, throws, and sprints, and the blue team had all the distance kids.

an epic 400m was run by mike bracken, in 56.7 and 55.6 for the open and 4x4, respectively.

Also, the highlight of the meet was the 4x1 racewalk, a total joke with Sarah Rosenberg almost nipping me in the final 5 meters, but I lunged. Grimes was our 2nd leg and got DQ'd anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered.

and then repeat the cycle. i was flying today.

200 - 31
400 - 69
600 - 1:45
400 - 62 (WTF)
200 - 30

break

200 - 32
400 - 68
600 - 1:47
400 - 67
200 - 29

the 62 was NUTS considering my PR is 60.1. Felt amazing the whole day, even though everyone else felt like crap, which i felt hella bad for. Everyone has their offdays, no biggie.

I am sensing an extremely good 400 leg on the 4x4 this year, and decent kick in the 1600.

Spring track will kick major testicles.

Mar. 21st, 2006 | 07:17 pm

Ok, so school records that will go down this year:

4x1600m - Grimes, Leonard, Myself, Massam
Distance Medley - TJ/Grimes, Dean, Chris Black, Massam
3200 - Massam
1600 - Massam

Not to mention our sophmore distance medley is going to get at least top 6 at the kearny relays.
And that our 4x8, if we have one, will get top 6.
And our 4x4, if we have one, will get top 3.

I am so excited.

i don't even know where the hell i went. i think i did maybe 4 miles, MAAAAYBE 5 if i'm lucky. i turned right in to this weird downhill area around where the farm is in longhill township, then i just followed the path until i was like "alright, i'm going to get lost in here."

good times, i need to do that more often.

recovery day, so me and the distance boys (TJ, Chris Black, Mike Sullivan, Corbitt, Jesse Chen [lol], etc) went on a nice and easy 3.5 miler through the powerlines, it was hilly but fun as hell. we got to school and decided to go play at the lafayette playground with nanette, biz, sarah, megan, bracken, samir, scott, and a few others which are escaping my memory at the time. we played lavatag, followed by manhunt, followed by me taking my pants down to my ankles and running around like an idiot. i also ran up to some 8 year olds with my pants off, it was sexual. then everyone tried to pants each other, so that was fun. honestly, i had never been happier in recent memory.

Track!

Mar. 7th, 2006 | 05:25 pm
mood: tired tired
music: Explosions in the Sky. Nice relaxing shit 8-).

From now on, I think this is just going to be a track journal since no one reads it anyway and I need something to keep track of my progress (lol pun).

last friday (March 3rd):

6 miles with Ben Massam, Greg Leonard and TJ (until he got a badass cramp about halfway through) at about 6:20-6:30 pace. That was rough considering that was my 5k pace in the beginning of the year, but it's also good because its an indicator that i can get low-mid 17's if i put a lot of work in over the summer. who knows, maybe i'll break 17 like grimes since right now i am at the same level of fitness as he was last year.

Monday (March 6th):

7 miles with TJ, felt like shit the first half of it (now i had the badass cramp) then beasted the last 2 miles or so. The last mile was probably about 5:20, i really fucked myself over with that one because tuesday i was/am dying.

Tuesday (March 7th):

Little bit of a modified ladder workout, 400 600 400 200 break 400 600 400 200. That was really rough since my upper quads/groin were KILLING from that last mile on monday. Even worse, the breaks were only like 60-70 seconds long, but felt like 10. Splits were:

400 - 1:10
600 - 1:50
400 - 1:08
200 - 0:34

break

400 - 1:09
600 - 1:57
400 - 1:07
200 - 0:32?

That last 600 was a bitch though, I felt like I was going to vomit. I never realized how much slower track workouts are, since my PR's are like:

200 - 27.xx
400 - 60.2x
600 - 1:35.xx

Dear god this will be a rough 2-3 months. Thankfully though, Chatham will DOMINATE the freshman-sophmore relays, and will do moderately well in the individuals since Chris Black and TJ Lavelle will get 3-4 in the 800, Marc Simon and Danny Casella will medal in the 200, Dean will get 2nd in the 400 (There are guys last year that ran 53 as a freshman. !!!), I will hopefully be 3rd or 4th in the 2-mile, Scott McCullough will win pole vault, high jump, 2nd in both hurdles, and our throwing team is beast.

I am excited. Hopefully, I can reach my goals of

800 - 2:09.50
Mile - 4:45.00
2-Mile - 10:30.00

Hooray!

what an amazing day. honestly.

- run a nice recovery 3.5 mile run.
- order chinese food.

PROBABLY ONE OF THE WORST CULINARY DECISIONS I HAVE EVER MADE. sesame chicken does not bode well with stomaches post-running.

- watched fantastic four. such a popcorn movie.

here's where the real fun begins. i called up my prospective sophmore distance medley squad - this being being chris black, dean hinnegan-stevenson, and tj lavelle - and we hit up the funplex for some sweet go-kart and lazertag action. they didn't let us in the foam frenzy though, what gives?

we proceeded to taco bell in which some wrestling d00ds joined us. fun was had by all, and by this i mean cheesy, meaty fun.

i hope all my entries aren't like this because honestly this was probably really boring. why are you even reading this?
